Lows & Highs: A Cold & A Christmas List

Lows & Highs: A Cold & A Christmas List

Low: Baby, It’s Cold Outside

I have had a cold with major congestion for the past six days. It has reminded me how much I enjoy being able to taste my food, breathe easily, and hear clearly.

High: My Grown-Up Christmas List

I am not stressed out about my “To-Do Before Christmas” list. Even though I have had less time and less energy (because of work and my cold, respectively), Brian has been working hard to help with tasks that I do not have to do myself. He has been grocery shopping, wrapping presents, helping with meals, and much more while I bake cookies and make other seasonal preparations.

What are a low and a high from your week?

Lows & Highs: Snow Days

Snowy neighborhood 2Low: Last Wednesday, I broke one of my contacts (the rigid gas-permeable type) and have had to wear my glasses for days. I finally had an eye exam today with my new optometrist today, so the contacts are on order!

High: Today is our second snow day in a row here in Great Bend. The school district and college preemptively canceled classes on Tuesday and then it snowed all day, blanketing the town with at least five inches of snow… granting us a second day of “snow vacation.” We have spent the past couple days doing laundry, keeping the house tidy, and watching mini-marathons of West Wing and Quantum Leap on Netflix.

I also like to bake when I am snowed in, something Brian had not yet experienced with me. In all, I made Apple Pie Streusel Muffins, roasted chicken, tamale pie casserole, and peanut butter cookies.

What were your lows and highs from the past week? Do any of them involve snow?

Lows & Highs: 1/23-1/29/13

Low: On Monday, my landlord called to tell me that a technician was on site needed to work on cables in the attic of my apartment building. The attic that can only be accessed through the closet of my back bedroom. The back bedroom that is messy and so full of stuff it looks like a hoarder lives there. So they saw my mess before I had a chance to hide or clean it. *sigh*

High: I had the fun of role-playing, playing dress-up, and sleuthing on Friday. My friends Shannon and Brian (my long-time friend the great game player and theatre buddy, not my fiance) hosted their second annual murder mystery party, Murder at Deadwood Saloon. I will not give away the plot because you may want to try it yourself. I played Minnie Money, an eighteen-year-old Chicago debutante who traveled to Deadwood with her parents and tries to run as wild as her heart pleases. My Brian (this one is the fiance) had a last-minute character change and played Gambler Jack, a professional gambler who came to Deadwood with his wife (Annabelle the Southern belle) for a poker tournament.

Lows & Highs: 12/5-12/10/12

Low: I honestly cannot remember a low from the past week.

Highs: After three weeks apart, I enjoyed spending time with Brian cooking together, watching a movie, and looking at Christmas lights over the weekend. One of the parks we visited includes the local zoo and is decorated with all sorts of fun Christmas-light animals.

Lows & Highs: 11/6-11/13/12

Low: The ‘check engine’ light on my car has been on for several days & we haven’t figured out what is causing it.

Highs: 1) My dad replaced my spark plugs in the cold, drizzly weather on Sunday (now that’s a great dad!). 2) Alec and Veronica returned from their honeymoon last weekend and stopped by to visit before Bible study on Tuesday evening. It was the first time I had gotten to visit and catch up with Veronica in several months since she has been so busy with wedding plans and moving.
